How to create and use custom FocalScope Accelerators

FocalScope Accelerators help you do repetitive and mundane tasks with just two clicks. Whether you are tracking an order with FedEx, or want to look up a customer in Facebook, or need to translate a foreign language in Google Translate, FocalScope Accelerators help you do the job without the manual tedium ordinarily associated with it. This article details how custom FocalScope Accelerators are created and used.

Preparing web tools to work with FocalScope Accelerators

Many web tools and search engines can be harnessed in FocalScope Accelerators. Once you understand the modus operandi of how such tools can be associated with FocaScope Accelerators, you can create a myriad of custom FocalScope Accelerators for your every need. For this example, we will be using Google search; the process of converting any other web-based search tool can be done in a similar fashion.

  1. In your web browser, go to www.google.com
  2. In the search field, type TEST and run the search
  3. Copy the entire URL displayed in your browser

  1. Open a new Notepad file
  2. Paste the URL into Notepad
  3. Click [Edit > Replace]
  4. In the [Replace] pup up, key TEST into the [Find what] field
  5. In the [Replace with] field, key in %SELECTION%
  6. Tick the [Match case] flag and click [Replace All]

  1. Copy the entire URL that you just modified in Notepad; you need to add it to FocalScope as an Accelerator command line

Adding a custom Accelerator to FocalScope

  1. In the [Main menu], select [Screen Administration]
  2. Click the [Administration] tab
  3. Navigate to the [Global Configuration > Thin Client & Accelerators] folder
  4. In the right-hand pane, select [Accelerators]
  5. Create a new Accelerator by clicking the green [+] button. You can define its location in the list of Accelerators by pressing the blue [up] and [down] arrows
  6. In the [Item name] field, enter a name for your accelerator. For this example, we will just call it Search in Google
  7. In the [Command line] field, paste the modified URL that you copied from Notepad
  8. Click the [Save] button. Your custom Accelerator is now ready to use

Using FocalScope Accelerators

  1. FocalScope Accelerators can be used in the following areas:
    1. Message Preview in the main window: From / To Cc fields, Subject Line, and Email Body
    2. Message Properties window: From / To Cc fields, Subject Line, and Email Body
    3. New Message window: Email Body
  2. Simply select any piece of text in one of the above-mentioned areas and right click the selection
  3. In the pop-up menu, click the [Search in Google] entry. Your browser should open and perform a Google search using the text you highlighted in FocalScope. As you add mode accelerators, they will be added to the pop-up menu
